Abstract

There is a management truism that constant innovation breeds consistent success. Innovative use of technologies in product or service design, manufacturing, distribution, and delivery often yields competitive advantage and greater profitability in the marketplace. Integration of new technologies into organizational structure spurs reconfiguration of work processes that improves efficiency and product quality. However, consistent innovation can be difficult to achieve given the costs of innovation, the impacted nature of technical knowledge and learning, institutional pressures for conformity within an industry, and organizational barriers to change.
