Abstract
In recent years there has been a growing interest in the use of various intelligent processing techniques such as, neural networks, genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, and expert systems to solve a wide range of complex problems. In many cases intelligent techniques outperform the more traditional statistical techniques, however it is also recognised that each of the techniques has its limitations. Ideally, a problem can best be solved by allowing different processing techniques to handle different parts of the problem. This has led to the creation of intelligent hybrid systems which combine various intelligent processing technologies.
