Abstract
It is an accepted restriction of HTML that the document author has extremely limited control over document display. This makes HTML portable and easier to learn but frustrates many authors who would like more control over presentation of their material. These authors would like the ability to create their documents with a system which offers a rich formatting structure and then convert that document into HTML format while retaining as much as the rich formatting as possible. The result has been the development of programs designed to convert documents originally developed in other formats to HTML.
