Abstract

A local area network (LAN) is a collection of data communications equipment connected by a common electronic connection within a relatively small area. Normally, LANs are owned and operated by their user. Standards for LAN have been agreed through the IEEE 802 and ANSI X3T9.5 committees. The IEEE standards have now been adopted by the ISO as international standards.
