Abstract

In this chapter, a production system organized in parallel multiproduct manufacturing lines is presented and the objectives of its management system are stated. Then, a classification of the essential constraints that characterize this type of system is given. Also, a classification of the different pieces of knowledge and data necessary for the loading and scheduling development is presented.

A prototype developed for the Baxter Company is described and presented. The results according to the given evaluation criteria are discussed.

In the last part, an architecture of a multi-model system is presented (incorporating the simultaneous use of several models: optimization methods, heuristics, expert systems and simulation tools) for loading and scheduling. It illustrates the perspectives and the aim of our research work. This chapter is a report of the author’s actual experience in the design and implementation of a production control system.
