Abstract
It is more than fifty years ago that Herbert Fröhlich [1] put forward his seminal idea of a one-dimensional charge density wave (CDW) conductor. Nearly twenty years ago, the first clear experimental proof of unconventional electronic conduction in a low-dimensional CDW system was found [2]. From measured data, single particle transport could be ruled out, and a new form of collective transport was revealed: the sliding condensate involving the broken symmetry state of electron-hole pairs.
