Abstract

The Kind Types system (KT) presently uses the naive semantic representations described in Chapters 2 through 4 and the disambiguation methods to be described in Chapters 6 and 7 to read text and show its understanding of the text by answering questions. In future development of the system, this understanding will help determine the relevance of text to a user’s stated interest. When KT reads English text, it employs a parser and logic translator by Stabler and Tarnawsky (1986) to create a PROLOG database containing all of the assertions in the text. In addition, it uses NS representations to understand some of the implications of the text. The Naive Semantic Lexicon is divided into the following databases:

  1. a)

    Ontological Schema

  2. b)

    Generic Information

  3. c)

    Typing Information

  4. d)

    Kind types
