Effects of Environmental Exposure on Sorption and Transport of Penetrants in Polymeric Materials

  • Chapter
Adhesives, Sealants, and Coatings for Space and Harsh Environments

Part of the book series: Polymer Science and Technology ((POLS,volume 37))

Abstract

The exposure of polymeric materials to hostile environments and/or conditions leading to mechanical deformation usually have marked effects on sorption and transport behavior in the materials. These effects can be interpreted, and in some cases predicted, by consideration of the chemical and physical changes in the materials resulting from exposure and deformation.
