Abstract
The derivation of Ward identities from BRST invariant gauge fixed versions of string field theory is discussed for both open and closed strings. However, in the latter case some problems are encountered in attempting to justify the gauge fixed action by the Batalin Vilkovisky method.
Invited talk given at the NATO advanced research workshop on superstrings, University of Colorado (Boulder) July 27–August 1, 1987.
