CRAW — An Expert System for Nuclear Reactor Cover Gas Alarm Analysis

Abstract

During operation of the Fast Flux Test Facility research reactor, it is important to know when the cladding of a fuel pin or a control rod pin experiences a rupture. Though such ruptures do not pose an immediate safety problem, fission products and fuel or control rod material can leach out of the pin at the rupture point and deposit in other areas of the reactor system. Furthermore, it is necessary to distinguish between a fuel pin or a control rod pin at the time of the rupture because the actions taken by the reactor operators are somewhat different for each.
