Promoting the Development of Children in Busy Primary Health Care Settings

  • Chapter

Abstract

It is generally agreed that the goal of primary health care for children is to treat illnesses and foster growth and development so that they will reach their full potential. In the past, necessity required that health care providers devote most of their time to treating infectious illnesses. However, as modern medicine has conquered many of these illnesses, health providers have been able to focus more of their attention on primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention of developmental disabilities.
