Abstract

The body reacts to injury both locally and generally. The inflammatory reaction contributes to the local response, which is considered to be important for healing and defense against infection. The general response is characterized by hypermetabolism, substrate mobilization, fluid retention, changes in coagulation and fibrinolysis, and various immuno- functions.
