Abstract
The enormous effort in interpreting and understanding the experimental data on heavy ion reactions at low energy has produced in the past years a large variety of theoretical models. They range from the most microscopic ones, like the Time Dependent Hartree Fock (TDHF), to the most phenomenological ones, like those based on classical calculations with phenomenological frictional forces. Despite this effort many questions appear to be still open, both because the experimental data seem not to be able to sharply distinguish among different models and because a simple physical picture of the relevant processes involved has not yet fully emerged.
