Abstract
IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is characterized by the presence in the blood of increased IgA-specific helper T cell activity with the receptor for the Fc region of IgA (Tα cells) (1), decreased IgA-specific suppressor T cell activity (2) and increased number of peripheral B lymphocytes with IgA Fc receptor (Bα cells) (3). Since interleukin 2 (IL-2) is a polypeptidic hormone which plays an important role in immunoregulation and lymphocyte activation, we thought it opportune to study the production of IL-2 from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) of patients with IgAN. Furthermore, we studied the distribution of IL-2R on PBMC surface.
