Abstract
To quote the late Stanley D. Wilson, “there are three main reasons for monitoring the performance of embankments and their foundations: 1) To observe the performance for safety reasons. 2) To compare the actual performance with that predicted by the designer. 3) To improve our knowledge of the behavior of dams in general.”1
