Abstract
The adsorption of surfactants on a mineral surface is very complicated due to the complex structure and ionic composition of the mineral-water interface. In many cases the character of the potential-determining ions also determines the type of binding between the surfactants and the mineral surface. In this paper the results of electrokinetic and adsorption measurements on feldspar and kaolinite are compared with the measured adsorption enthalpies. With the enthalpy values obtained, the adsorption mechanism of the surfactants is discussed in connection with the character of the potential-determining ions.
