Abstract
Peter Beaconsfield called the placenta “The Largest Human Biopsy”1 and “A Neglected Experimental Animal”.2 Both descriptions are accurate. It is a readily available source of normal living human tissue (trophoblast, connective, vascular) as well as a source of proteins and peptides associated with the trophoblast — nucleic acid, lectins and collagens — to mention but a few.
