Abstract
Let us start with the introductory talk about corrosion in general. This talk attempted to summarize the majority, if not all, of the fundamental problems arising from the implantation of metallic prostheses in living bodies. A few other papers in this session were devoted to particular aspects of corrosion and its mechanisms, and one pointed to the possible inhibition of corrosion using surface layers of Al/Al2O3, i.e. utilizing the passivation properties of aluminium.
