Abstract

The purpose of this note is to study some aspects of Marangoni problem in a zero-gravity environment. In most of the papers concerned with Marangoni instability, the following hypotheses are made:

  1. 1.

The upper surface is flat and not deformed.

  2. 2.

The viscosity of the fluid is temperature-independent.

  3. 3.

The Fourier law of heat conduction is taken for granted.

  4. 4.

The disturbances are infinitesimally small and a linear analysis is justified.

  5. 5.

The surface tension is a linearly decreasing function of the temperature.
