Abstract
It is generally ackowledged that during the last two decades the incidence of hemorrhagic stroke has substantially decreased because of the successful treatment of hypertensive disease. However, some investigators believe that the incidence of spontaneous intracerebral hematomas has remained stable during the last 20 years, comprising approximately 10% of all strokes (Higgins and Nashold, 1980b).
