Abstract
Almost 100 years ago Charcot described multiple sclerosis (MS) as a distinct nosological entity. Today, it is still one of the most important problems in neurology. Charcot not only pointed out the classical triad of symptoms pathognomonic for this disease (intention tremor, nystagmus, staccato speech) but also described other frequently occurring symptoms (diplopia, impaired vision, paresis of the extremities, vertigo, ataxia, muscular atrophy, etc.).
