Handling Bulk Shipments of Liquefied Compressed Gases

  • Compressed Gas Association

Abstract

The liquefied compressed gases commonly shipped to users in bulk by rail or highway are: anhydrous ammonia, liquefied petroleum gas (LP-gas), butadiene, chlorine, methyl chloride, methyl mercaptan, sulfur dioxide, vinyl chloride, and broadly, liquefied fluorinated hydrocarbons. Carbon dioxide, hydrogen chloride, nitrous oxide, and vinyl fluoride are shipped as liquefied compressed gases at low temperatures. However, due to special considerations, these gases are not covered in this chapter. Similarly, this chapter does not address bulk shipments of cryogenic liquids such as oxygen, nitrogen, argon, hydrogen, and helium.
