Interaction of T-2 Toxin with Cell Membranes

  • Chapter
Microbial Toxins in Foods and Feeds

Abstract

The trichothecene mycotoxins are well studied and known to cause toxico- logical problems in man and animals.25 The most potent of this family of toxins is T-2 toxin. T-2 toxin is cytotoxic, having a radiomimetic effect on rapidly dividing cells. Immune function impairment has been reported for T-2 toxin both at the level of humoral immunity and cell mediated immunity.2,17,27
