Abstract
The study of pulmonary gas exchange kinetics during human exercise yields insight into control mechanisms involved in the process of delivery of oxygen from the environment to the exercising muscle and the consequent removal of carbon dioxide. Mathematical models play an important role in the design of these studies and for subsequent interpretation of gas exchange kinetic data. The modeling process provides for the interaction among experimental data, physiological interpretation and experimental design.
