Abstract
On October 28 and 29, 1985, fifteen specialists in disaster planning for cultural property met in Los Angeles at the invitation of the Getty Conservation Institute. During the two days of meetings, the group evaluated the current state of disaster planning for both movable and immovable cultural property; identified the major problems in disaster planning, prevention, and response; considered means to heighten awareness of the need for disaster planning by the cultural heritage community and to communicate the conservation community’s concerns to civil disaster planning authorities; and discussed ways in which the Getty Conservation Institute could support disaster planning efforts.
