Abstract
The skin of vertebrates represents and functions as a highly developed sensory organ enabling the organism to explore the near environment. Skin receptors are also used as sensors for body protection, reflexes and cutaneous neuro-vegetative reactions. The same receptor may be used for different functions but there are also receptors with one specific sensory function.
