Abstract
This case study deals with a single, specific topic; as such it does not fully illustrate the approach discussed in this book. It is an early and relatively simple example, a first step in a lengthy process of developing a new approach to the study of the history of the built environment. For one thing, like other scientific fields, it will inevitably be a group endeavor. It does, however, illustrate some of the most important issues discussed in Chapters 1–3; neither is it at odds with the principal issues raised in the supporting arguments.
