Abstract
In recent years, it has been suggested that calcitonin (CT), in addition to well known action on calcium and phosphate metabolism, may also exert effects as a neuromodulator. In fact, evidence has been given that CT potentiates haloperidol-induced catalepsy in rats (1), decreases glutammic acid decarboxylase (GAD) activity in the substantia nigra (2), decreases plasma prolactin level in rats and in healthy subjects (3,4), induces analgesia in animals and man (5,6), and inhibits gastric acid secretion and feeding in rats (7,8).
