Abstract
At the onset of exercise, the kinetics of oxygen uptake at the level of the capillary-alveolar membrane (\( \dot V \)O2A) can be calculated using breath-by-breath techniques. Measuring the oxygen uptake kinetics at the working tissue (\( \dot V \)O2T) during whole body exercise is not possible in humans. However through computer modelling, the dynamics response of \( \dot V \)O2T can be estimated1. The model must reproduce what can already be measured before it can make predictions about that which cannot be measured. This presentation will focus on modelling the early phase I response of \( \dot V \)O2A.
