Abstract
In the early 1960s we reported deficits shown by acallosals when performing bimanual coordination tasks under a speed stress (Jeeves, 1965; Jeeves and Rajalakshmi, 1964). These early findings were confirmed by Chiarello in her 1980 review paper on cognitive functioning in callosal agenesis (Chiarello, 1980). It was evident from her review of studies of twenty-nine acallosals that problems with bimanual coordination were one of the most commonly reported features of these patients’ performance. A nineteen-year follow-up showed that this deficit does not disappear in the course of development (Jeeves, 1979).
