Abstract
Wavelet packets constitute a useful tool for the decomposition of complicated functions into a small number of elementary waveforms that are localized both in time and frequency. They have been introduced by R.Coifman, Y.Meyer and V.Wickerhauser. We recall here the main ideas of their construction.
