Abstract
An earlier chapter discussed aquaculture in natural and modified systems, those systems requiring little or no input by man to achieve a desired production level. This chapter deals with more advanced culture systems, that is, those requiring significant inputs by man in terms of resources, energy, and investment. Confined fish culture may be carried out in ponds, raceways, or tanks. Many considerations determine which type system to use. These considerations are the subject of this chapter.
