Abstract
Fans are provided throughout the steam electric generating unit to supply or exhaust air or flue gas to meet the needs of a variety of systems. In addition, fans are used for building heating, ventilation and cooling, equipment pressurization to prevent contamination due to inleakage, and cooling for a wide variety of equipment from lubricating oil coolers to mechanical draft cooling towers. This chapter discusses primarily the specific fan requirements for fossil fuel combustion air and flue gas exhaust, but the general considerations presented for fan performance and operating characteristics are also representative for other fan applications.
