Abstract

I would like to start by reminiscing a little about some of the early days when William Fairbank first came to Stanford in 1959. I had come the previous year as an assistant professor. My responsibility was to install the helium liquefier and a helium pumping system and to set up a laboratory in the old physics building, so that there would be some low temperature facilities available for Bill when he arrived from Duke.
