Self-Consistent Green′s Function Method for Random Surfaces and Interfaces

  • Chapter
Stability of Materials

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSB,volume 355))

Abstract

The last decade is characterized by a fast development of materials science with special emphasis on production of new materials, often with unique properties. We just mention thin magnetic films on non-magnetic substrates, metallic multilayers, or semi-conductor superlattices. Surfaces and interfaces of solids are also of great interest from both theoretical and technological points of view, as many of material properties depend critically on the properties of surface and interface regions. Catalysis, chemisorption, crystal growth, grain boundaries, and segregation of atoms to the surface or interface are just a few such examples.
