Abstract

Oil-in-water is analysed offshore in the North Sea for two reasons:

  1. 1.

The National State Pollution Control Authority’s and the Oslo — Paris Commission (OSPAR) has set the target for discharge of non polar aliphatic hydrocarbons to 40 mg/1 based on IR spectrophotometric detection and freon (CFC 113) extraction. This discharge limit should be reported as a monthly average based on daily measurements.

  2. 2.

Offshore analysis based on a number of different principles off-line and on-line are requested to test the efficiency of oil/water separation facilities offshore.
