Abstract

Plasmodium falciparum malaria was proposed by Miller et al., (1973)1 and Butcher et al., (1973)2 to invade human red blood cells by receptor mediated endocytosis. Perkins, (1981).3 This was considered to be a multi-receptor lectin-like interaction by Jungery, et al., 1983.4 Since then, a large number of reports have claimed receptor specificity for endogenous erythrocyte surface structures and have claimed inhibitory activity for a number of exogenous substances, proportedly to mimic the natural receptor.
