Diamond Detector Based SXR Array for ITER

  • Chapter

Abstract

Silicon surface barrier detector based Soft X-Ray (SXR) imaging systems have been successfully used in tokamak experiments for plasma shape, sawtooth and other MHD oscillations measurements. But the high fluxes of 14 MeV neutrons and γ-rays make it impossible to use silicon detectors in such system in ITER deuterium-tritium experiments. The most important problems are detector’s radiation resistance and low signal (due to SXR flux) to noise (due to neutron and γ fluxes) ratio1. Natural Diamond Detectors (NDD)2,3 have essentially higher radiation resistance and lower current sensitivity to DT neutrons and gammas. Here we will discuss the possibility to use NDDs for ITER SXR-imaging.
