Abstract

The effort on generic access for diagnostics to date has addressed the port requirements and types of solutions feasible and required to be incorporated in the conceptual designs of diagnostics. These must be further refined and detailed in each diagnostic area and more importantly incorporated in the design of the other, non-diagnostic ITER systems. The approach shall still be the same, to look at the design of specific diagnostic systems or of the component solution for specific systems and then to broaden the design to include other similar systems. The ITER diagnostic design problems originate from radiation shielding and damage; removal of nuclear heating; increased reliability and safety related to the tritium confinement barriers.
