Abstract
Fourier transform spectrometers (FTS) give a unique possibility to perform a spectral overview of electron cyclotron emission (ECE) by a single, absolutely calibrated instrument; furthermore, detailed measurements of the electron temperature profile can be obtained, provided that the spectral resolving power is adequately large. Since the latter is proportional to the maximum path difference introduced in the two-beam interferometer which multiplexes the spectrum, the time resolution for a given spatial resolution is limited by the time taken to scan the path difference.
