Mass Spectrometric Investigations on Proteinaceous Toxins and Antibodies

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 391))

Abstract

Recent development in biological mass spectrometry has contributed immensely to the growth in diverse fields such as molecular biology, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxinology, immunology and biotechnology.1–11 The mass spectrometric techniques provide versatility in ionization techniques and modes of detection along with femtomolar sensitivity, accuracy and reproducibility. This has enabled solving assorted complex structures of biopolymers with ease.1–9 In general, the mass spectrometric techniques have been demonstrated to be powerful tools for the characterization and detection of larger as well as smaller chemical and biological molecules.1–19
