Abstract
A theory is presented in this chapter that attempts to link depression and mania with the association hypothesis. It is suggested that both mental disorders arise from a common mechanism involving a disruption in the normal balance between memories and their associated emotions. This hypothesis represents a logical extension of ideas and concepts presented in earlier chapters.
