Abstract

In Chapter 3, I proposed a consumer choice model for interpreting archaeological and archival data. The model consists of three propositions:

  1. 1.

All material culture is wealth, or potential wealth, until discarded.

  2. 2.

Wealth is situated in the household.

  3. 3.

Households express their identities, and their aspirations, through their uses of wealth, namely, through consumer choices.
