Abstract

At the beginning of May 1955 the Paris Treaty came into force. The Bundes Government had accepted its ratification. Adenauer could now get busy with his long planned changes. The present office of Theodor Blank would be reorganised into the office of the Ministry of Defence. As the new Foreign Minister Adenauer named Heinrich von Brentano. Finally, the last ‘Minister without Portfolio’, the CSU politician Franz Josef Strauss, also received a department. In November 1954 the Chancellor had already conveyed to him that he was one day to look after ‘atomic affairs’....
