Sampling Lepidopterous Pod Borers on Soybean

Abstract

Lepidopterous pod borers known as major soybean pests are: (1) Tortricidae (Eucosminae), i.e., the soybean pod borer (Leguminivora glycinivorella Matsumura) and the bean podworm complex (Matsumuraeses phaseoli Matsumura and M. falcana Walsingham); and (2) Pyralidae (Phycitinae), i.e., the limabean pod borer (Etiella zinckenella Treitschke). Diagnostic descriptions for identification of these species are presented in the Appendix to this chapter and are based mainly on Ishikura et al. (1952), Naito and Masaki (1962) and Issiki et al. (1969).
