Concerning Z, Q and R
Number systems are at the heart of what are usually regarded as the more elementary parts of mathematics. The simplest number system is the natural number system, discussed in Chapter V. However, for reasons which will be familiar to most readers of this book, need is soon felt for various extended number systems: integers, rational numbers, real numbers and complex numbers. This chapter is concerned with integers, rational numbers and real numbers; complex numbers will be discussed in Chapter XII.
