Abstract

Pathologic alterations of the cardiovascular system are generally classified as either congenital or acquired. Acquired conditions may be further classified as either primary or secondary, and can result from a variety of etiologic agents or metabolic and physiologic alterations. Although cardiovascular disease can significantly alter normal function and can cause death, many conditions are limited in extent and have little or no effect clinically on the animal.
