Abstract

Skill in the appraisal and evaluation of the cerebrocortical functions of attention, perception, conception, orientation, and memory as well as of attitudes, feelings, and behavioral tendencies of the ill or injured person is becoming part of the comprehensive-care approach of the staffs of critical care units. They have come to recognize that either extremes of overwhelming anxiety or abject depression are danger signals interacting with a precarious balance of forces in their severely ill patients[11].
