Abstract
A degree program for a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Programming is presented. Some highlights of the effort to establish this program at the University of California at Santa Cruz are discussed. Special attention is given to the difficulty academic institutions have in coping with the conflicting demands for liberal arts and vocational emphasis in education.
