Abstract
This paper is based upon a keynote address given at IEEE Spring’ 76 COMPCON concerning the next five years in software practice and development. Since the software field is too large for anyone person to know in depth, I drew not only upon my personal experiences, information from friends and associates, and published material, but also from the neighborhood tea leaf reader. Since the intention in this paper is to generalize, the result is clearly not directly applicable to specific companies, Universities, professional associations, or programming groups.
